Cuban food is one of my all time favorites, it takes some of the best qualities of Mexican food and mixes them with some qualities of Asian food, but the blend really becomes something else. Martino's cuban Restraunt is my personal favorite Cuban restraunt by far.
Their prices are pretty good for the amount you get, but what really makes it worthwhile is the fantastic quality of their food. You can be sure to be able to afford a full meal for roughly $10, but if you really want to get the most bang for your buck I suggest going on a week day for lunch. they have an all you can eat lunch buffet for just $8.75. While they don't offer everything they have on their menu in the lunch buffet they certainly give you enough to quench your apetitie.
Some personal favorites of mine are the Cuban Sandwich, The breaded chicken with black beans and rice, the Cuban croquetas, the empenadas and finally the tres leches. The Cuban Sandwich is your simple toasted sandwich with pork, cheese, seasonings, pickles, and mustard, but I personally don't like the pickles and mustard. It's authenticly made, as is all food from Martino's and it comes with a nice garden salad for an apetizer.
Another great entree is the breaded chicked with black beans and rice. They amound of food they give you for just $8 is astonishing, and the quality is just great. The chicken is fried to perfection and the black beans are more of a black bean soup, which blends perfectly with the rice. This dish also comes with a couple fried plantains, which are basically fried bananas covered in a sugary syrup, and they are a real treat. The Cuban Sandwich and the Breaded chicken dish are definietly two entrees you need to try.
The croquetas and empenadas are simply apetizers to your main course. The croquetas are a mix of mashed potatoes, pork, and spices for flavoring all fried togetether. It's a fantastic little treat for anyone who just wants something nice, small and warm to hit the spot. If you're not in the mood for it though, I strngly recomend the empenadas as a substitute, they come with a vegetarian option which contains steamed vegetables wrapped in fried bread, and a meat option which is a fried exterior of bread filled with a meaty interior of beef and pork for your pleasure.
Finally we have the tres leches, or in english, the three milk cake. It's a vanilla cake smothered in the three different types of milks and covered in vanilla frosting to be as sweet as perfection. It's really one of those things you have to try for yourself because words simply can't do your taste buds justice.
Martino's Cuban Restraunt is a family owned restraunt located in Someville NJ, and it's owned by none other than Martino himself. When you go into the restaraunt you feel more like your in a kitchen than in an actual restaraut and it's a rare day that you'll be able to have a meal their with having a conversation with Martino, one of the nicest people around. I certainly recomend it to everyone who's craving some deliscious cuban food.
